PHILIP BROENNIMAN, CFA

Managing Partner

Philip Broenniman, Managing Partner and Portfolio Manager, brings to Varana Capital, LLC (VCLLC) over 30 years of investment, analytical, and advisory experience. As part of the VCLLC investment strategy of cooperative engagement, Phil and his partner sit on or advise the Board of multiple public/private companies, working with each on strategic planning, operational dynamics, and balance sheet needs/restructuring.

Prior to co-founding Varana Capital in 2012, he held the positions of Principal and Portfolio Manager at Visium Asset Management, LP; Managing Partner and Portfolio Manager at Cadence Investment Partners, LLC; and Investment Analyst with the Bass Family Office in Fort Worth, TX. He began his career at Salomon Brothers Inc. trading fixed-income futures and options.

Phil earned a BS in Computer Science from Duke University in 1987, an MBA from the Darden School at the University of Virginia in 1993 and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2000.

EZRA GARDNER

Partner

Ezra Gardner, Partner and Portfolio Manager, brings to Varana Capital, LLC (VCLLC) over 20 years of analytical and investment experience. As part of the VCLLC investment strategy of cooperative engagement and as with his partner, Ezra sits on or advises the Board of multiple public/private companies, working with each on strategic planning, operational dynamics, and balance sheet needs/restructuring.

Prior to co-founding Varana Capital in 2012, he held the positions of Managing Partner and Portfolio Manager at Omnium Capital, LLC, a family office he co-founded in Tel Aviv, Israel; Head of UBS’ US Equity Portfolio for the Fundamental Investment Group where he also sat on US Trading Committee; Senior Analyst at MSD Capital (Michael Dell family fund management office); and Analyst in investment banking at JP Morgan.

Mr. Gardner earned a BA in Economics (honors) and a BA in International Relations from Brown University in 1999.

ANKUR AHUJA

Chief Operating Officer

Ankur Ahuja, Chief Operating Officer, brings to Varana Capital, LLC (VCLLC) over 10 years of operational and investment experience. Prior to joining Varana Capital in 2021, Mr. Ahuja held the position of Founder and CEO at NexGen Logistics, a logistics company he founded in 2018, selling just prior to his move to Colorado. From 2009 – 2017, he was CEO of Cadence Distributors, a consumer

products business he founded with Mr. Broenniman and subsequently sold to a competitor/license holder whose sales exceed $100MM. And from 2005 – 2009, Mr. Ahuja worked as an intern and then business analyst at Cadence Investment Partners, a New York City-based event-driven hedge fund where he worked alongside Mr. Broenniman. Mr. Ahuja earned a BA in Economics and Finance from New York University in 2009.

BRETT OGIN

Director, Business Development

Brett Ogin, Director of Business Development, brings over 23 years of investment experience. Prior to joining Varana Capital in 2021, Mr. Ogin was an experienced real estate investor and entrepreneur with residential, commercial, and industrial projects. He was with Con Edison Development for 16 years, where he focused on their solar portfolio, one of the largest in the country, as well as their retail energy

services business. He’s previously held analyst roles at Morgan Stanley, Quist Financial, and Pillsbury Winthrop. Mr. Ogin earned a BS from the University of Colorado and an honors MBA from Baruch College, Zicklin School of Business, in both Finance and International Business.
